Most Rechtsschutz contracts have a waiting period of 3 months for employment and tenancy law. Disputes that arise during that period are not covered. Important: the insured event is the first cause of the dispute, not the date the claim is filed.
As standard: civil law and traffic law. Extended: employment law, tenancy law, criminal law. Premium: family and inheritance law, tax law. Advisory cases — even without going to court — are covered in most plans.
Yes, in Austria you have a free choice of counsel — you decide for yourself, including in favour of a practice that speaks your language. As Versicherungsmakler (insurance brokers) we do not provide legal advice and do not conduct proceedings: our part is obtaining the confirmation of cover from the insurer and checking that the fees are actually paid.
Civil and traffic law cover: the EU plus Switzerland and Liechtenstein. For trips to Ukraine it is often restricted — we check the exact terms before you sign.
A claim, for example before the labour court, costs roughly 3,500–8,000 €, made up of legal fees plus court costs. Mediation or an out-of-court settlement: often 1,500–3,000 €. With Rechtsschutz: 0 € for you.
Pre-contractual disputes, where you already knew the cause before taking out the policy; cases you brought on yourself involving alcohol or drugs; trivial cases below 250 € in dispute; and some family and commercial matters, depending on the plan.
