Be there. Stay.

Care means this: someone stays when others have to go.

The state Pflegegeld (care allowance) in Austria is often not enough when care is needed. Long-term care insurance tops it up — and gives you and your family dignity when it matters most.

Nobody likes to talk about care. That is exactly why we do.

In Austria the state Pflegegeld runs from 200 to 2,000 € a month, graded across seven care levels. Round-the-clock care costs between 2,500 and 4,500 € a month. A place in a care home costs 3,000 to 5,000 €. The gap is real.

Whoever does not insure it today pays it tomorrow — or their children do. Private long-term care insurance raises the state Pflegegeld by up to 200%. It pays whether the need arises with age, after an accident or through illness. It is not meant for you alone. It is also for the people who love you — so that they can love you without having to do sums at the same time.

Voices from the diaspora.

My father is at care level 4. The insurance now pays 1,200 € extra a month. We were able to keep him at home — not in a home. It is the most important thing we have ever insured.
Olena T.Vienna · UA
We took out a policy with cover abroad for my mother-in-law. She is being cared for in Lviv now — with dignity, and without ruining the family.

I took out a policy for myself at 52 — 44 € a month. My children should never get the bill I got for my mother.

Frequently asked

Answers in a language you understand.

Level 1 means more than 65 hours of care a month, through to level 7 — more than 180 hours, immobility and constant supervision. The state benefit rises from around 200 € at level 1 to around 2,000 € at level 7. The level is set by a medical assessment from the pension authority.

In Vienna: 2,500–3,500 € a month, with two carers alternating, often from Romania or Slovakia. Plus federal support of up to 1,200 € a month. What is left for you to pay: roughly 1,500–2,500 € — the typical gap.

Yes, but more leniently than for health insurance. With good plans there is no risk surcharge up to around age 60. From 70 there is often a surcharge or a waiting period of 3 years. We check the exact terms for your situation.

In the Comfort and Premium plans: yes, abroad as well. One important condition: the need for care has to be documented by a recognised medical assessment. Ukrainian assessments are usually accepted too, with a certified translation.

Yes, if you are the one paying the premiums and your parents are under 75. The benefit goes to the person needing care, that is, your parents. A very common arrangement in the diaspora.

Care insurance pays once an official care level has been assigned. Quality-of-life cover also pays for temporary limitations such as rehabilitation or an operation. For most families we recommend classic long-term care insurance.

We talk about it so that you do not have to — when the time comes.
