ID Austria in 20 minutes
Step by step: from activation to your first document signature — saving half a day in the queue at the counter.
ID Austria — a state digital identity that replaces queuing at the Magistrat with a few clicks: submitting documents, signing, and accessing FinanzOnline and USP without visiting any office.
What you will need in advance
A smartphone with a camera, a valid passport or residence permit, and five minutes in a well-lit place — the app photographs the document and your face for verification.
Activation step by step
You install the "ID Austria" app, register with your email address, photograph your document, complete a video identity check (this is the longest step — up to 10 minutes waiting to connect with an operator), and set a PIN for signing.
What this gives you immediately
A qualified electronic signature is equivalent to a handwritten one — a rental agreement, an application to the Finanzamt, or documents for a Gewerbe can be signed without printing or scanning. This is precisely the half-day that used to be spent queuing at a counter.
Nine out of ten queries we receive in someone's first month in Vienna are resolved faster if ID Austria is already activated.
We help with ID Austria, FinanzOnline and other digital public services. This rubric breaks procedures down into steps — without the jargon.
